Connecting your Instagram account to CreatorFlow takes about 2 minutes. You need an Instagram Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page. This guide walks you through the setup and fixes for every common error.
Before You Start: Two Requirements
CreatorFlow uses Meta's official API to send DMs. This API only works with Instagram accounts that meet two requirements:
- Your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account (not Personal)
- Your Instagram account must be connected to a Facebook Page
If you already meet both requirements, skip to Step-by-Step: Connect to CreatorFlow.
Requirement 1: Business or Creator Account
If your Instagram account is set to Personal, you need to switch it to Business or Creator. Both work with CreatorFlow. Here's how:
- Open the Instagram app on your phone
- Go to your profile and tap the hamburger menu (three lines, top right)
- Tap Settings and privacy
- Tap Account type and tools
- Tap Switch to professional account
- Choose Creator or Business (either works)
- Follow the prompts to complete the switch
The switch is instant and free. You won't lose any followers, posts, or DMs.
Requirement 2: Connected Facebook Page
Your Instagram Business or Creator account needs to be linked to a Facebook Page. This is a Meta requirement for all API integrations, not just CreatorFlow.
To check if your Instagram is linked to a Facebook Page:
- Open the Instagram app
- Go to your profile and tap Edit Profile
- Scroll down to the Links section
- If you see a Facebook Page listed, you're good. If not, tap Link to Facebook Page
If you don't have a Facebook Page, create one:
- Go to facebook.com/pages/create on your computer
- Enter a Page name (use your Instagram handle or brand name)
- Select a category
- Click Create Page
- Go back to Instagram and link your new Page using the steps above
Step-by-Step: Connect to CreatorFlow
Once your Instagram account meets both requirements, connecting to CreatorFlow takes 3 clicks.
Step 1: Enter your Instagram username
In CreatorFlow, type your Instagram username (without the @) and click Connect.
Step 2: Authorize the connection
A Facebook/Meta popup appears. Here's what to do:
- Log in to the Facebook account that owns the Page linked to your Instagram
- Select your Instagram account from the list
- Select the Facebook Page linked to your Instagram
- Grant all requested permissions (CreatorFlow needs all of them to function)
Grant all permissions. If you deselect any permission, CreatorFlow won't be able to send DMs or read comments. You'll need to disconnect and reconnect to fix it.
Step 3: Connection complete
CreatorFlow confirms the connection. Your Instagram profile photo and username appear in the dashboard. You're ready to create your first automation.
Troubleshooting Common Connection Errors
"No Instagram Business Account found"
This means your Instagram account is still set to Personal. Switch to Business or Creator using the steps in Requirement 1 above.
"No Facebook Page connected"
Your Instagram account isn't linked to a Facebook Page. Follow the steps in Requirement 2 above.
"Permission denied" or incomplete permissions
You deselected one or more permissions during the OAuth flow. To fix:
- Go to Instagram > Settings > Website Permissions > CreatorFlow
- Remove CreatorFlow's access
- Go back to CreatorFlow and reconnect
- This time, grant all permissions
"Wrong Facebook account" or wrong Page selected
You logged into a different Facebook account than the one linked to your Instagram. Disconnect and try again, making sure to log into the correct Facebook account in the popup.
Connection worked but DMs aren't sending
Check these in order:
- Make sure your automation is turned on (toggle should be green)
- Check that the trigger matches what you're testing (e.g., the right keyword, the right post)
- Go to Workspace Settings and verify the connection status shows "Connected"
- If the status shows "Expired" or "Error", disconnect and reconnect
If none of these fix the issue, contact support at info@creatorflow.so.
